Scottish Parliamentary Reception, Tuesday 28 January, 2014
In celebration of the refounding of the 'See Me', Scotland's national anti-stigma programme to end the discrimination of people with mental ill-health. To that end, Frances Simpson, CEO of Support In Mind Scotland and Eric (Board Member) and Mike Staley and Alisdair Cormack, Peer Volunteers and Service Users of the Stafford Centre were invited to the Scottish Parliament to be with other groups and organisations, hosted by 'See Me' and Fiona McLeod MSP. Along with drinks and nibbles we all had a thoroughly wonderful evening at the Scottish Parliament, with a guided tour of the debating chamber at the end, speeches were given by Fiona and Angiolina Foster, the Director of Health and Social Care Integration, and she welcomed the newly appointed director of 'See Me', Judith Robertson, formerly Head of Oxfam Scotland.

Blue's Bowl
Another great creation from one of our members of the wood group, Blue made this wonderful bowl from a small piece of American Oak that we had using the lathe. She created this after 4 visits, fantastic!! Blue is now planning to make a larger bowl to match this. If your interested in making wonderful things like Blue's bowl contact The Stafford Centre on 0131 557 0718 or go to www.staffordcentre.org.uk or via our new Facebook Page - The Stafford Centre

Are you affected by welfare reform?
The
Welfare Reform Committee of the Scottish Government would like to hear from
people with, or caring for those with, long-term conditions and get their
thoughts about how welfare reform is impacting on them.
About a year ago, the Welfare Reform Committee began an
initiative, ‘Your Say’, to hear directly from those who have been directly
affected by welfare reform. Over the last year the Committee has heard the
stories of people from Glasgow, Annan, Kirkcaldy, Dunoon, Stirling, Coatbridge,
Hamilton, Dundee, Edinburgh, Biggar… the list goes on.
Some of these personal stories are extraordinary, moving,
shocking and often painful. Many firmly
believe that this process of exposing the impacts of welfare reform on the lives
of every-day people is slowly having an effect on the way people feel about
this process.
The Committee is looking to run an evidence session – late
this year, or early next – looking at
the impact of welfare reform on those with long-term conditions, generally
health conditions that last a year or longer, impact on a person’s life, and
may require ongoing care and support.
